Welcome to the AirCool Capstone Design Project Wiki page.
Abstract:
As heat generation density of modern machinery continues to increase, cooling systems need to be developed or enhanced in order to control thermal related accuracy and or reliabiluity issues. Modern systems continue to focus on air cooling for reliability, cost and portability reasons. The objective of this design activity entails using compressed air, delivered viaa variety of delivery apparatus concepts, to cool a heat generating machine component in order to reduce the overall component temperature and the thermal energy input into the machine structure.
Heated Fixture:
Heated fixture to simulate heat gerating machine component such as a linear servo motor.

Cooling Design Concepts:

Log Manifold Pinched Tube Air Knife
Simulation:

Natural Convection Forced convection with pinched tube cooling
Color contour plot of surface heat transfer coefficient (scales different)

Natural Convection Forced Convection with pinched tube cooling
Streamlines of air flow around test apparatus colored by velocity (scales different
